Payton Tolle

Triple-A Worcester (AAA)

ETA
#19 MLB Pipeline
The crown jewel of Boston's farm system and one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball. Tolle skyrocketed through three levels in 2025, ending the year pitching in the postseason at Yankee Stadium. His four-seam fastball sits 96-98 and touches 100, paired with a devastating curveball. He's effectively already made the big league team — it's just a matter of when Cora calls on him in 2026.

#31 MLB Pipeline
Boston's most exciting position prospect — a 20-year-old Venezuelan shortstop signed out of the 2023 international class. Arias is a contact machine with an absurdly low 10.1% strikeout rate who hit .350 in his DSL debut at age 17. He played across three levels in 2025 including Double-A. Scouts compare his approach to a young Ozzie Albies. He's the Red Sox shortstop of the future.

#3 in system
Already in the big leagues! Early graduated to the MLB roster and earned the #5 starter spot for the 2026 Red Sox after an electric spring where he struck out 7 in 3 innings. He's listed here because he still has prospect eligibility in some leagues — but Red Sox fans should think of him as a full big leaguer now. His curveball is his best pitch and his ceiling is a #2 or #3 starter.

Top 100
One of three first-round SEC pitchers Boston selected in the 2025 draft. Witherspoon has stuff that makes scouts drool — an upper-90s fastball with explosion, a hard slider, a cutter, a curveball, and a changeup. His ability to pound the zone while missing bats with multiple offerings gives him a legitimate frontline starter ceiling. He's still early in his development but the talent is undeniable.

Top 30
A 19-year-old Dominican right-hander who can already push his fastball to triple digits. Valera is the hardest thrower in the Red Sox system and one of the most exciting young arms in the entire organization. He's still raw but the ceiling is enormous — a power arm with a 100 MPH heater at just 19 already at High-A is a special player. The Red Sox are extremely high on him long term.

When you look at Justin Gonzales you see the frame and physicality of a young David Ortiz — 6'5", 210 lbs at just 19 years old. Signed internationally in early 2024, Gonzales had a monster DSL debut at 17 (.320/.391/.517) and reached High-A by 2025. The raw power hasn't fully translated yet but scouts project him as one of the most dangerous power hitters in the system.

Top 30
A 6'6" left-hander acquired from the Washington Nationals who missed all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery. Bennett has outstanding extension down the mound with a mid-90s four-seamer, a sinker, a plus changeup, and a slider. He's at Triple-A and is the most likely pitcher to get a call-up in 2026 if the rotation needs a left-handed arm.

Rising Fast
The most exciting name you haven't heard yet. At just 18, scouts are already drawing comparisons to Mookie Betts and Rafael Devers, with a swing reminiscent of Xander Bogaerts. He hit .307 in his debut and is expected to skyrocket through the rankings fast. He's years away but the talent is generational-level. Keep this name in your head.

Top 30
The second of three first-round SEC arms from the 2025 draft. Phillips brings a mid-to-upper 90s fastball with a promising slider and solid secondary stuff. The Red Sox's pitching development system is elite and Phillips fits the mold perfectly. He's a high-upside arm who will develop alongside Witherspoon and Eyanson as the next wave of Red Sox starting pitching.

The third first-round SEC arm from 2025 and perhaps the most electric of the trio. Eyanson made headlines in spring 2026 when he hit 100 MPH for the first time, making him one of the hardest-throwing prospects in the system. His emergence alongside Witherspoon and Phillips gives Boston a truly elite trio of young arms that should be in Boston by 2027-28.

Farm System Note: The Red Sox system was ranked #3 in all of baseball entering 2025. After the graduations of Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Kristian Campbell — plus trades of several top prospects — it now sits #11. But with Tolle, Arias, Witherspoon and a loaded international class, the future is very bright. Rankings per MLB Pipeline.
